Selling way more body armor than usual and tactical equipment Gold and silver are available locally in big enough amounts to take all the money I set aside for it. Weather is great this year and the garden is taking off looks like Ive got apples for only the second time Still a lot of jobs on the slope although have seen a few layoffs at the airport and turist related jobs Crime is way up in anchorage but down evrywhere else The surplus store we own has seen record sales all this month so maybe the folks are starting to get scared |
Re: Alaska Report
Yeah its been a beautiful summer down here on the Kenai Peninsula except for all the smoke from the forest fires, but this recent rain has helped a lot. I spent fourth of July camping out on the beach in Homer by Kachemak Bay. It was simply gorgeous.
I've spent a lot of time tent camping this summer in and out of various places...sometimes campgrounds, sometimes just out in the woods and I've noticed a few things about the weekend warriors along the way.... You're probably an amateur in the campground if....you build a big roaring campfire anyway, even though its hot out and you don't need it to cook on either. You're probably an amateur in the campground if....you run the generator in your motorhome continuously even though you really don't need it. Almost as if someone in your group has a phobia of lack of electricity. You're probably an amateur in the campground if...."leave no trace" camping means to you using lots and lots of toilet paper in the woods which is promptly dropped on the ground for others to discover during a nature hike. You're probably an amateur in the campground if....you decide 11PM is a great time to crank over that old boat engine and get it running that hasn't been in the water for years so you crank it over and freaking over with it backfiring until the battery finally (and thankfully) dies. You're probably an amateur in the campground if....you feel the need to strap on your sidearm to protect yourself from wild animals while sitting at the campground picnic table. You're probably an amateur in the campground if....you set up your brand new tent and then walk away from it without weighing it down with gear or rocks and then it rolls away like a tumbleweed when the wind picks up later in the day. |

Re: Alaska Report
Fond memories of the three years I spent there in the 70s. Worked on track gangs up and down the line on the ARR and for VE Construction on the Slope[guess that is VECO now?]. Driven out by the infamous lackanookie.
